How it works
任 concedes any amount of effort and reports that it changed nothing: 任你怎么说，他也不听. The frame is written-style, and the second clause is nearly always negative — that is where its force lies.
Examples
任你怎么劝，他也不听。
Rèn nǐ zěnme quàn, tā yě bù tīng.
No matter how you try to persuade him, he won't listen.
任凭风吹雨打，小树也没倒。
Rènpíng fēng chuī yǔ dǎ, xiǎo shù yě méi dǎo.
