How it works
Here 固然 concedes a point in order to overturn it: the 但是 clause carries the speaker's real position. This is the argumentative use — grant the opponent's case, then answer it.

价格固然便宜，但是质量太差。
Jiàgé gùrán piányi, dànshì zhìliàng tài chà.
The price is cheap, admittedly, but the quality is too poor.
他固然有才华，不过太骄傲了。
