How it works
基于 introduces the grounds a decision or conclusion rests on: "on the basis of, in view of". It belongs to formal writing — reports, contracts, academic prose — and normally opens the sentence.
Examples
基于以上原因，我们决定推迟会议。
Jīyú yǐshàng yuányīn, wǒmen juédìng tuīchí huìyì.
In view of the above reasons, we have decided to postpone the meeting.
这个结论基于大量数据。
Zhège jiélùn jīyú dàliàng shùjù.
This conclusion is based on a large body of data.
