How it works
鉴于 states the considered grounds for a decision that follows: "in view of, given that". It is the register of official announcements, and what follows is normally a measure being taken.
Examples
鉴于天气原因，比赛延期举行。
Jiànyú tiānqì yuányīn, bǐsài yánqī jǔxíng.
In view of the weather, the match has been postponed.
鉴于他表现出色，公司决定提升他。
Jiànyú tā biǎoxiàn chūsè, gōngsī juédìng tíshēng tā.
Given his outstanding performance, the company decided to promote him.
