How it works
沿 or 沿着 before a road, river, or line marks the route an action follows — "along". Put it and its object before the verb of motion.
Examples
沿着这条路一直走。
Yánzhe zhè tiáo lù yìzhí zǒu.
Walk straight along this road.
我们沿着河边散步。
Wǒmen yánzhe hébiān sànbù.
We strolled along the riverbank.
火车沿着山路慢慢前进。
Huǒchē yánzhe shānlù mànmàn qiánjìn.
The train slowly advanced along the mountain path.
