How it works
Marks the method, channel, or process by which something is achieved, meaning 'by way of' or 'through'. As a preposition it introduces a means; note it can also be a verb meaning 'to pass (a test/an area)', which is a separate use.
Examples
通过努力，他找到了好工作。
Tōngguò nǔlì, tā zhǎodào le hǎo gōngzuò.
Through hard work, he found a good job.
我们通过网络认识了。
Wǒmen tōngguò wǎngluò rènshi le.
We got to know each other via the internet.
