How it works
Introduces the source, evidence, or standard on which a statement or conclusion rests, meaning 'based on'. It usually opens the sentence; unlike 按照, which stresses following a rule or method, 根据 stresses the informational basis.
Examples
根据天气预报，明天会下雪。
Gēnjù tiānqì yùbào, míngtiān huì xià xuě.
According to the forecast, it will snow tomorrow.
根据他的说法，会议改到下午了。
Gēnjù tā de shuōfǎ, huìyì gǎi dào xiàwǔ le.
According to what he said, the meeting was moved to the afternoon.
