主谓谓语句

主谓谓语句 — subject-predicate as predicate (topic + comment)

Pattern

+ +
( ) can be left out · other words may come before, between and after

How it works

In this pattern the predicate is itself a subject-predicate clause. A topic comes first, then a smaller subject and its comment describe it — 他身体很好 "(as for) him, (his) health is good".

Examples

他身体很好。
Tā shēntǐ hěn hǎo.
He is in good health.
这个孩子眼睛很大。
Zhège háizi yǎnjing hěn dà.
This child has big eyes.
北京冬天很冷。
Běijīng dōngtiān hěn lěng.
Beijing is very cold in winter.
