HSK 2 grammar · adverb

就

就 — then / right away

Pattern

+ +
+ +
( ) can be left out · other words may come before, between and after

How it works

The adverb 就 before a verb links two things closely in time — the second happens soon or as an immediate result, like "then" or "right away". It sits after the subject and before the verb.

Examples

我吃了饭就去。
Wǒ chī le fàn jiù qù.
I'll go right after eating.
他一说,我就懂了。
Tā yì shuō, wǒ jiù dǒng le.
As soon as he spoke, I understood.
下课以后我就回家。
Xiàkè yǐhòu wǒ jiù huí jiā.
After class I'll go straight home.
