How it works
的 links a modifier to the noun it describes, covering possession ("my", "your") and other descriptions. The noun can be dropped when it is already clear.
Examples
这是我的书。
Zhè shì wǒ de shū.
This is my book.
他是一个很好的人。
Tā shì yí ge hěn hǎo de rén.
He is a very good person.
