动量补语

动量补语 — verb + action-measure complement (once, twice…)

Pattern

+ + +
+ + +
( ) can be left out · other words may come before, between and after

How it works

An action-measure word like 次, 遍, or 下 goes after the verb with a number to count how many times the action happens — "once", "three times". When there is an object, the count usually comes before it.

Examples

我去过两次北京。
Wǒ qù guo liǎng cì Běijīng.
I've been to Beijing twice.
请再说一遍。
Qǐng zài shuō yí biàn.
Please say it once more.
他敲了三下门。
Tā qiāo le sān xià mén.
He knocked on the door three times.
