HSK 2 grammar · adverb

在

(正)在 + verb — in progress

Pattern

+ +
( ) can be left out · other words may come before, between and after

How it works

(正)在 before a verb marks an action happening right now, in progress. It differs from 在 + place, which tells location.

Examples

我在看书。
Wǒ zài kàn shū.
I'm reading.
他们正在吃饭。
Tāmen zhèngzài chī fàn.
They are eating right now.
