How it works
需要 says something is needed — before a verb it means "need to", before a noun "need (something)". Negate it with 不需要.
Examples
你需要休息一下。
Nǐ xūyào xiūxi yíxià.
You need to rest a bit.
我不需要帮助。
Wǒ bù xūyào bāngzhù.
I don't need help.
做这个菜需要三个鸡蛋。
Zuò zhège cài xūyào sān ge jīdàn.
Making this dish needs three eggs.
