How it works
要 expresses wanting something or being about to do something; it is stronger and more definite than 想. It can take a noun (want a thing) or a verb (be going to).
Examples
我要一杯咖啡。
Wǒ yào yì bēi kāfēi.
I want a cup of coffee.
我要去北京。
Wǒ yào qù Běijīng.
I'm going to Beijing.
