How it works
勿 is the formal written "do not", the register of public signs and notices: 请勿吸烟. In speech the same idea is 别 or 不要.
Examples
请勿触摸展品。
Qǐng wù chùmō zhǎnpǐn.
Please do not touch the exhibits.
闲人勿进。
Xiánrén wù jìn.
No unauthorised entry.
