How it works
When a verb has both an object and a manner/degree complement, the verb is repeated: once with the object, once with the complement — 他说汉语说得很好. The complement describes how the action is done.
Examples
他说汉语说得很流利。
Tā shuō Hànyǔ shuō de hěn liúlì.
He speaks Chinese very fluently.
她写字写得很漂亮。
Tā xiě zì xiě de hěn piàoliang.
She writes characters beautifully.
我打篮球打得不好。
Wǒ dǎ lánqiú dǎ de bù hǎo.
I don't play basketball well.
