HSK 6 grammar · particle
嘛
嘛/啦 — sentence-final 嘛 (obvious) and 啦 (了+啊)
Pattern
+
an obvious reason
+
啦 is 了 and 啊 said together
( ) can be left out · other words may come before, between and after
How it works
These colloquial sentence-final particles add feeling. 嘛 marks something as obvious or expected ("after all", "come on"); 啦 is a fusion of 了 and 啊 that softens or livens an announcement.
Examples
有意见就说嘛。
Yǒu yìjiàn jiù shuō ma.
If you have an opinion, just say it (come on).
这不是很简单嘛。
Zhè bú shì hěn jiǎndān ma.
This is obviously quite simple.
我回来啦!
Wǒ huílái la!
I'm back!
