极了/死了

…极了 / …死了 — extreme degree

Pattern

+
+
( ) can be left out · other words may come before, between and after

How it works

Both attach after an adjective (or emotion verb) to mark an extreme degree, meaning 'extremely'. 极了 is neutral in tone, while 死了 is more colloquial and exaggerated, often for discomfort or strong feeling; both replace, rather than combine with, 很.

Examples

这个菜好吃极了。
Zhège cài hǎochī jí le.
This dish is incredibly delicious.
今天热死了。
Jīntiān rè sǐ le.
It's boiling hot today.
