How it works
给 marks the person who receives something or benefits from the action — "to" or "for" someone. It comes before that person.
Examples
我给你打电话。
Wǒ gěi nǐ dǎ diànhuà.
I'll call you.
他给我一本书。
Tā gěi wǒ yì běn shū.
He gave me a book.
