HSK 7–9 grammar · adverb

分明

分明 — clearly, plainly (yet…)

Pattern

+
+ +
( ) can be left out · other words may come before, between and after

How it works

分明 asserts that something is plain to see, usually against someone's denial or a contradictory outcome: "you clearly did…". It therefore tends to be followed by 却 or a protest.

Examples

我分明看见他进去了。
Wǒ fēnmíng kànjiàn tā jìnqù le.
I clearly saw him go in.
这分明是他的错。
Zhè fēnmíng shì tā de cuò.
This is plainly his fault.
