How it works
朝 before a direction or place shows which way an action or object faces — "toward", "facing". Like 往 it points a direction of motion, and like 向 it can mark the way something or someone faces.
Examples
请朝前走。
Qǐng cháo qián zǒu.
Please walk straight ahead.
他朝我笑了笑。
Tā cháo wǒ xiào le xiào.
He smiled toward me.
我房间的窗户朝南。
Wǒ fángjiān de chuānghu cháo nán.
My room's window faces south.
