“把”字句5:表致使

“把”字句5 — 把 marking a caused reaction

Pattern

+ + + +
+ + + +
( ) can be left out · other words may come before, between and after

How it works

In this 把 sentence the noun after 把 is not what gets handled — it is the one who reacts. The subject (often an event) causes that person to fall into a state: 这个消息把他高兴坏了. The verb therefore takes a complement or 了 showing the state reached, and the marked, adversative version reports a misfortune landing on the speaker.
