疑问语调

疑问语调 — questions by rising intonation

Pattern

said with a rising tone, without 吗
( ) can be left out · other words may come before, between and after

How it works

A plain statement can become a question just by saying it with a rising tone — no 吗 needed. It often checks something or shows surprise at what was just heard. In writing, only the question mark shows it.

Examples

你不去?
Nǐ bú qù?
You're not going?
这是真的?
Zhè shì zhēn de?
This is true?
他已经走了?
Tā yǐjīng zǒu le?
He's already left?
