How it works
什么的 after one or more items means "and so on", "and things like that". It rounds off a list casually, like 等等 but more colloquial.
Examples
我买了苹果、香蕉什么的。
Wǒ mǎi le píngguǒ, xiāngjiāo shénmede.
I bought apples, bananas, and so on.
周末我喜欢看电影、听音乐什么的。
Zhōumò wǒ xǐhuan kàn diànyǐng, tīng yīnyuè shénmede.
On weekends I like watching movies, listening to music, and the like.
桌子上有笔、本子什么的。
Zhuōzi shàng yǒu bǐ, běnzi shénmede.
On the desk there are pens, notebooks, and so on.
