来得及/来不及

来得及/来不及 — (not) be in time to

Pattern

+ +
there is still time
+ +
no time left or too late
( ) can be left out · other words may come before, between and after

How it works

来得及 says there is still enough time to do something; 来不及 says there is not — "(not) be in time to". A verb usually follows, and both often appear with 还 or 已经.

Examples

现在出发还来得及。
Xiànzài chūfā hái láidejí.
There's still time if we leave now.
火车快开了,来不及买票了。
Huǒchē kuài kāi le, láibují mǎi piào le.
The train is about to leave; there's no time to buy a ticket.
你现在去还来得及吗?
Nǐ xiànzài qù hái láidejí ma?
Is there still time if you go now?
